Spring in full swing

Brooklyn walked back and forth from inside the house and outside to water this tree.  It kept her busy for about a 1/2 hour; it was great.

Briggs is now starting to help mow the lawn.  He really likes it!

He is still trying to get those darn lines straight!  He is such a good boy!

I found this little boy in the shed hiding from Brooklyn with his hamburger in hand.  Oh, he is funny!

These two play really well together

A little blurry but I LOVE Ethan's expression!  Too cute not to post!
One day Brooklyn wanted to hold Sterling while she watched Strawberry Shortcake.  I thought this was pretty cute!

We finally got our garden in last weekend and it felt so good to have it done

Those are raspberry plants along the fence.  Hopefully in a few years we'll have some yummy raspberries.  A BIG thank-you to my in-laws for digging them out of their own garden for us.

Unfortunately in the last week we've had about 459 wind storms (and I'm not exaggerating!) and most of my plants look pretty sad right now; my cucumber and strawberry plants are pretty pathetic-looking right now.

Seeing our tree blossom was exciting!

Silly kids

My husband does a great job on our lawn!  It is really nice and dandelion free (which is not easy in our neighborhood)!

Believe it or not, Ethan is trying to hide from Briggs behind this pole; that made me laugh!

Happy Spring and may the wind PLEASE PLEASE subside............................. please!

It's hard sometimes...

It's hard to be the chunkiest one in your class at the gym... granted there was only one other girl and the instructor in my turbo class tonight but when they're both have the shape of a pencil and you don't it's a little depressing (especially in a room of mirrors)... just sayin'.  Almost made me want to go home and eat a box of those Belgian chocolates my mom sent home with me... almost.  Instead I settled for a protein shake.  Trying to stay positive upstairs but it's not always easy.

One day at a time...

One year ago today...

... my Grandma Alice "Betty" Burnett passed away.  As I look back over this year a lot has happened, we moved our family out west, left the security of our government job to pursue a dream of owning our own business, and welcomed a new son into our family.  All things that I'm sure my Grandma saw from above.  I am forever grateful that I chose to be there for/with her as she left this world to no-doubt a better place.

I remember, after we came home from the funeral, Cory and I talking in bed one night about how, with her passing, all the things her generation stood for also seemed to have passed with her.  The simpleness, hardworking, honest, and genuine way of life, and we both felt sad about that.  We don't mourn for her because we know she is happy and that we will see her again when we die, but boy, we wish our kids could have known their Great-Grandparents a bit more in this life. My hope is that through stories and old photographs we can keep their legacy alive. (some of which I plan to include in this blog)

While home in Montana this last time my Mom let me borrow some of her old photographs so I could scan them.  Here are a few of my favorites of my Grandparents...

My Grandma and Grandpa far right

I absolutely LOVE this photo of my Grandparents

My Grandpa with arms around my Grandma

And a gem that I found on Mothers Day while looking through my Mom's photos.  The last Mothers Day card her son, who passed away the December of that same year, gave to his own mom.  What a wonderful treasure; and how fitting for the day.

Mother's Day weekend

Mothers Day weekend we headed to Billings.

The number one reason for going was so we could surprise my Dad for his Magic City Singers Concert; which I hadn't been to in at least 10 years.  He did AMAZING!!  The concert was so fun!  There were a group of special needs adults in the back of the auditorium and after each song this one guy would sincerely shout out "THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU!"  It made me smile every time!  Sometimes he'd add with gusto "ALL RIGHT!  THANK-YOU!"  My dad sang a solo, Old Man River, and received a standing ovation!  After the concert I found out that my Grandma Jones, who has a hard time getting into and out of chairs, was among the first to stand up for her son.  Very sweet!  I also gave a heart-felt standing ovation at the end of the last number ;-) and was the only one standing.  Determined to be the leader of the ovation I continued to stand until I realized no one else was going to stand and my husband and my very own mother were laughing at me and telling me to sit down.  No one told me there'd be one extra song (not on the program mind you) before everyone else stood up.  Good thing it was dark and I'm comfortable with myself.  We laughed all the way home about it!

Another big reason for going was to work on a project with my Dad, who was gracious enough to help me with the LARGE undertaking (we spent 16 hours together working on it).  I will post about it hopefully soon; I'm really excited!  I just kept telling him, "look at all this quality time we are spending together."  I know he was tired so I appreciated his sacrifice... and his expertise... and his tools ;-)  Love ya Dad!

We also had my sister's baby shower and my Grandma's birthday party/get together with all the family.  Plus it was a nice bonus to be able to spend Mother's day with my own mother.

After we sang to her she dipped her finger in the frosting and put it in her mouth!  If you know my Grandma that is soooo her!  She is a hoot!

The family... I love this picture!

Brooklyn talking my Aunt Chris's ear off.  I think she is trying not to smile!  It was fun to catch up with her while I was home!

Mothers Day Breakfast!
My Dad makes great pancakes.  Here Ethan is helping him mix them up!

Mothers Day gift from husband/kids
Mothers Day morning Cory gave me 3 beautiful orange roses and my favorite Ben and Jerry's ice cream... so good!  Then he had each of the kids give me the gifts they made for me.  My husband knows me well and knows that I LOVE gifts from the heart.  The day before he helped the kids do their own original finger paintings for me and they painted reasons they loved me.  It melted my heart!

Brooklyn loves me "this much" (arms outstretched all the way-pink), when we cuddle (purple/orange), and she says I dress her pretty (yellow-no help from daddy on that one)

Ethan loves when I hug him (blue), says I have good family home evenings (gold/silver), and that I'm a good cook (pink)

Briggs loves my smile (orange), when I kiss him (green), and help him (yellow).

This is Brooklyn showing me that she loves when I "hug" her

I loved my Mothers Day and spending the day with my own special mother!
