A couple photos from our Mother's and Father's day visits this year.
Great Grandma and Grandpa love our kids and love our visits!
Mother's day
She sure loved little Briggs!
Two days prior to that I got a call on my phone from Judy's phone but it was Mindy, Cory's sister, on the other line and she asked for Cory. Immediately I knew something was wrong. It was Cory's Grandma who was in the hospital after suffering a stroke. She was in critical condition and not expected to live long with all the bleeding in her brain. When we told the kids they were heart-broken! Briggs was especially emotional about it and there were a lot of tears from him; he loves his Great Grandma's and Grandpa's! Ethan was a little emotional but very curious and asked a lot of questions. Ethan got really emotional and with tears in his eyes a little later when he asked "well... who's Great Grandpa going to live with?" He was so sweet and so concerned for him. He asked if Great Grandpa could come live with us. That really touched me. That boy of ours can be very tender hearted. That first night was pretty emotional for our kids. We were all able to go up to the hospital and say our goodbyes. The boys were able to go in and say goodbye, though Ethan did so from a distance. Cory kissed his Grandma and told her he loved her as did Briggs. She didn't look the same as her hair was all flat, and Cory did good before we went in there to prep the boys. She passed two days later after everyone (Jodi and some others) who were coming into to town from far distances to say their goodbyes were there. Although funerals are never fun, you cannot discount the great reunions that come because of them. It was really great to see Cory's sister Jodi, and to see Todd and Penni (who we got to see quite a bit over the 4th) again. I also got to meet and get to know Cory's cousin Jordan for the first time! It was really great chatting with him and learning about him and his family.
Marilyn's funeral service was on the 14th. It was a really nice day and a nice funeral; except Sterling wasn't too fond of it (he was an absolute grump during the service so I spent almost the entire time out in the lobby with him). The night before the funeral there was a viewing in Shelley and every time Sterling would go in the room with her body in it he would scream. It was no different for the first few minutes during the viewing the day of the funeral. Then after that he seemed to relax and want to go up to her casket. The kids all went up several times to go up and look her and they even touched her hand. I think it surprised them how hard and cold her hands were. We had a lot of great discussions about death and life after death. I never want my children to be afraid of death because we've taught them that though the body dies the spirit never does.
Unfortunately my camera was in the shop but my sister-in-law Mindy took some great pictures! Here are a few from her blog (thanks Mindy!).
