So, yesterday I started getting ready for the day just shortly after 8 am.
I go to jump into the shower, but, just before that, Ethan wasn't feeling good so I got him in the bath. He decides he wants to play for a while and I wait. Finally, I get into the shower. I get out and wash my face, throw on my pajama's and Brooklyn is hungry. So I sit down to nurse her; hair wet, un-brushed, with no make-up. Now it is just after 9.
My hair is definitely not going to blow dry without frizz but oh, well. Briggs wants a snack, and Ethan hasn't eaten breakfast yet, so I get him some cereal and need to go back about 3 times to re-fill his little bowl. Cory calls me from work to see what I'm doing, I tell him I'm trying to get ready (ha ha) and head back to work on my hair. Ethan gets done and I am just in the middle of blow drying my hair and Briggs informs me that Ethan wants out of his chair. I go to the kitchen to get him down from his chair and wash his hands and face and the boys start to play. That play eventually (as it seems to do these days) leads to a fight, usually over a toy or Ethan is screaming because Briggs' has tackled him. After several threatenings to "stop tackling Ethan" or to "quit fighting or I'm turning the cartoons off" (which I usually use as a decoy while I'm getting ready) and I decide that I'm about done with all of that and decided to let the boys duke it out with each other; (they'll figure it out right) and I head back to my bathroom, with the fan blaring to drown out the noise, and finish the "already 30 minute process" of blow drying and doing my hair (There is a reason I don't wash it everyday!) By this time, Brooklyn, who was asleep is now awake from all of the noise and I still don't have my make-up on. It is 10 o'clock.
Ethan needs another diaper change so I kill two birds with one stone and change Brooklyn at the same time, but Brooklyn is in desperate need of a bath and so if I'm changing her diaper I better give her a bath and save myself a diaper; so that is what I do. (There is no way we are going to make it out of the house to get anything done or do something fun before we've got to turn around and come home for lunch.) I still haven't eaten breakfast, Ethan is running around with no shirt, Briggs is the only one dressed for the day and now Brooklyn. I decide I better do my make-up while I can. Briggs keeps coming in saying that he's still hungry but I tell him he's already had a snack and he'll have to wait; they clearly need some attention and I just want a few moments to my self. I finally get to the bathroom to finish my make-up and it is just about 10:30.
I get dressed, grab some breakfast--or rather brunch, and then I decide if we are going to go out and go to the park I better nurse Brooklyn before we leave. So out go my plans of going to the paint store or running some "important mommy" errands. It is 11 and I decide that it is a beautiful day and we only have about an hour before lunch and we head to the park; and I'm so glad we did! The boys loved swinging on the BIG swings and having me do under-dogs and push them higher! I'm so glad I chose the boys over running errands, it is always worth it!

So, 2 1/2 hours later, 3 diapers, 2 baths, breakfast, snacks, a phone call, nursing, breaking up several arguments, and many other interruptions, I am finally ready for the day! Now you know how long it takes me to get ready. How about you? ? ? ? ?

Those kids keep us so busy, but they are worth it. We got Brooklyn's baby announcement. She is so adorable, thanks for sharing with us.
Hang in there! You just brought back flash backs of the days 2 years ago when Carter was born and I only have 3 months until I get to enjoy those days right along with you!
I just emailed you about this...funny. I guess that answers my questions. :) Sounds like you are handling it well though - go SUPERMom!
This was great to read...oh I can so relate. My mornings are full of turning around in circles too, trying to keep everyone happy so I can steal those few moments of time to get myself ready too. Aaron always tells me it'd be so much easier if I were a morning bird like him and could get up at the crack of dawn and take the time for myself while the kids are still sleeping, and maybe he's right, and I really do try, but you know, a mom only gets so much peace and rest, and so I choose to sleep while they sleep...and so I get to spend my morning running around in circles.
That was hilarious! It sounds exactly like a description of trying to get myself ready in the morning. That is why I usually take a shower or put on make-up but not both and some days I don't get to do either one! Brooklyn's birth announcement is adorable. Hang in there!
Haha!! I loved the details. Some people say they can't imagine how hard it must be having three little ones- now all I have to do is refer them to this post! ;D
It takes me an hour and a half to get ready from before shower to out the door and actually feeling put-together. Which is why I only do it once a week now, and have decided to call these my "bad-hair years." Get up at 5:30 to primp and then stay home or go to the grocery store? No way- ha!!;) But I am thinking of bumping that number up to twice a week if the kids start sleeping til 7 regularly.
Yay for naptime!!! I choose blogging instead of curly hair. ;)
You go girl!!! More power to you for fighting the get-ready battle in the first place!
This cracks me up! The kids are always bethed, dressed and ready for the day by the time Cort comes home for lunch, but more than half the time I'm not. I think it is a cardinal rule for kids not to ever let their mom's have time to do anything like shower... let alone do makeup and hair! We got Brooklyn's announcement in the mail. So cute! Did you do those yourself? Perhaps I should read a little more on your blog before I ask. Hang in there, we are all in the same ranks these days. Gotta love it.
It's good to get all of that down; so that when someone asks you how you did it...you have a detailed description of how your days do. I always knew you were amazing and could handle any given situation....
